WORLD HABITAT DAY / WEEK

Let's stand up on World Habitat Day and let it be known that affordable, adequate housing should be a priority everywhere—in our communities, in our towns, in our country, in our world.

The United Nations has designated the first Monday each October as World Habitat Day.This year on Oct. 5 in Washington, D.C. and around the world, please join Habitat for Humanity in support of this global observance as we come together and declare that the lack of decent, affordable housing is unacceptable.According to the United Nations, more than 100 million people in the world today are homeless. Millions more face a severe housing problem living without adequate sanitation, with irregular or no electricity supply and without adequate security.
Worldwide, more than 2 million housing units per year are needed for the next 50 years to solve the present worldwide housing crisis. With our global population expanding, however, at the end of those 50 years, there would still be a need for another 1 billion houses. (UN-HABITAT: 2005)Raising awareness and advocating for change are the first steps toward transforming systems that perpetuate the global plague of poverty housing. World Habitat Day serves as an important reminder that everyone must unite to ensure that everyone has a safe, decent place to call home. The U.N. further states that both developed and developing countries, cities and towns are increasingly feeling the effects of climate change, resource depletion, food insecurity, population growth and economic instability.Rapid rates of urbanization cause serious negative consequences - overcrowding, poverty, slums with many poorly equipped to meet the service demands of ever growing urban populations. With over half of the world’s population currently living in urban areas the U.N. believes there is no doubt that the "urban agenda" will increasingly become a priority for governments, local authorities and their non-governmental partners everywhere.

U.S. Housing Facts
About 95 million people, one third of the nation, have housing problems including a high-cost burden, overcrowding, poor quality shelter and homelessness. (National Low Income Housing Coalition: 2004)
One in three American households spend more than 30 percent of income on housing, and one in seven spends more than 50 percent. (Joint Center for Housing Studies: 2006)
The number of low-income families that lack safe and affordable housing is related to the number of children that suffer from asthma, viral infections, anemia, stunted growth and other health problems. About 21,000 children have stunted growth attributable to the lack of stable housing; 10,000 children between the ages of 4 and 9 are hospitalized for asthma attacks each year because of cockroach infestation at home; and more than 180 children die each year in house fires attributable to faulty electrical heating and electrical equipment. (Sandel, et al: 1999)

Global poverty facts
By the year 2030, an additional 3 billion people, about 40 percent of the world’s population, will need access to housing. This translates into a demand for 96,150 new affordable units every day and 4,000 every hour. (UN-HABITAT: 2005)
One out of every three city dwellers – nearly a billion people – lives in a slum. (Slum indicators include: lack of water, lack of sanitation, overcrowding, non-durable structures and insecure tenure.) (UN-HABITAT: 2006)
UN-Habitat has reported that because of poor living conditions, women living in slums are more likely to contract HIV/AIDS than their rural counterparts, and children in slums are more likely to die from water-borne and respiratory illness. (UN-HABITAT: 2006)
Housing formation generates non-housing related expenditures that help drive the economy. (Kissick, et al: 2006)
Investing in housing expands the local tax base. (Kissick, et al: 2006)

The theme for World Habitat Day 2009 is "Planning our Urban Future"
Celebrations of World Habitat Day in Washington, D.C. will be an excellent opportunity to foster global discussion and raise the profile of shelter and urban issues at the national and international level. Events in the United States and around the world include policy forums, award presentations, luncheons, dinners, house-building and exhibitions.

CHRISTIANITY TODAY

What is in Asia? Ignorance of Gospel.
What is in Africa? Abnegation of Christ.
What is in those most noble churches of the Greeks, where Christ was planted by Paul and long after watered by others? Mohammad and his false sect.
Yea what is in Rome? The greatest idol of all others, that adversary to Christ, that man of sin, extolled above all that is called God.

FINE ROWS AUGUST 4 2009, VIANNEY DAY

Editorial BY SIJO C.

An eye of appreciation can bring a great difference to our perspectives.
A person or a thing we consider as dull, ugly, and unimportant
or an event which is unwanted, boring, lifeless, can become useful, colourful and meaningful, if one can perceive its goodness
and the hand of the Creator.
There is nothing in this universe which is not useful and unwanted.
Everything is created from the goodness of the Creator
and all exhibit His ‘goodness’ in one way or the other.
The things which we throw away as useless can be essential in some other circumstances of our life itself.
Everything has its own significance and particular role in keeping
the harmony of the world.
Often, even after fifty years of our life, here on this earth,
we may fail to see the beauty of this nature and the glory of its Creator.
We may pass away from this universe even without taking the fragrance
of a rose or even without looking up the sky on a full moon day.
Anne Morrow Lindbergh remarks,
“It is nice to think how one can be recklessly lost in a daisy”.
An inner eye of appreciation helps us to look at things differently with
an awe of wonder and perception of its goodness.
This can change our life and attitude towards the other creatures.

So, dear friends, start to look at all what around
with an new eye of appreciation…

…and we give you amble opportunities to share your inner joy through

The Cure’ D’Ars
He turned to his guide, one of the local boys: “You have shown me the road to Ars; I will show you the road to heaven.” It was the first statement that the newly appointed shepherd made before entering to his vineyard. What an unnatural saying! Isn’t it? Yes, here is a man who was unnatural in his ways of life but indeed in favour of God. John Mary Vianney that is his name. By the very grace of the Good Lord and Virgin Mary he was ordained a priest.
Ars was as strange as Mars. Early the next morning, Ars was surprised to hear its cracked bell ringing. It announced something great always…. He was a humorous man too. Once, he placed a sign on the statue of John the Baptist: “HE PAID FOR A DANCE WITH HIS HEAD.”
Do you know that the greatest confessor possibly in the history of that sacrament and the man who spent three-fourths of his life in the confessional was denied faculties for hearing confessions for several months on account of his problematic academic record.
Many writers had alluded to saint Francis de Sales’ ability for “Seeing everyone without looking at anyone.” Vianney had this gift in the confessional. Penitents came to watch him look at them. He could do it through the wall. It confused Vianney and amazed others.
One of the men got up at two O’clock in the morning and crept into the church; the Cure' was praying. By daybreak the word was already spreading: “This one is not like the others.”
Friends, these small things took place in the small village where that simple pastor was appointed. And Ars which was Mars became famous in his name. People recognized something different in this pastor’s life. And we are called to become another Christ like Vianney. Are we able to show something different from the world like Vianney through our life? If we were in his place, which way we would have shown? Will it be to heaven? Let us hope so…..

LOVE THE HARDSHIPS!!!
BY MEJO PUTHU
Let the stone to be crushed and become soil
Let the farmer sow the seeds in the soil
Let the seed sprung up and become a plant
Let the plants bear fruits of grains
Let the laborers’ reap the fruit and gather into the bans
Let it be grained and becomes flour
Let it be cooked and become loaf and life.

THINK…..THINK…..AND THINK????????

BY MEJO PUTHHH
Understand what is life?
Love the life
Treasure something in the life
Otherwise, why this life on earth?

Is this life a dream that merges from vanity?
Is this life something real that is born from vacuum?
What was I before?
What will be I after?
Why did I am born?
Why should I live?
Why there is death?
What is meaning of my life?
Whatever I see smells finitude,
Whatever I know, tells my ignorance,
What ever I experience indicates perishability.

Centuries after centuries ………..
Whether I was born….
Whether I lived…….
Whether I died……
Becomes a mystery……………..
Sometimes becomes an unknown history……….

Everything is vanity of vanities………full of vanities!!!

Birthday under a Village Tree BY ANISH JEB

Fifteenth April 2009, was the silver jubilee of my earthly existence. Twenty-five year ago I came as a stranger into this unfamiliar planet, fortunately or unfortunately even on my silver jubilee day I found myself to be a stranger in an unfamiliar remote village in the jungles of Jabalpur diocese for my jubilee celebration. The first birthday wish came from the buffalo that was tied to the tree under which I was sleeping. The wish was so powerful and loving; I jumped out of the bed. “Wow! What a loud voice, louder than our seminary’s rising bell.” All of sudden I heard someone laughing. I looked around and saw the tree laughing at me. I sat on the cot blinking and knew not what to do next. The memories of my previous birthday celebrations were flashing through my mind. Pondering over the past let my spirit down and made me so sad. Now no one to wish; no one to pray; no gifts; even no one to smile! “O God, what a fine day and appropriate place to celebrate the birthday!” I murmured. To my surprise, the lady of the house was gazing at me and coming toward me. Hurrah! She might be coming to give me a birthday kiss, God might have informed in her dreams about my birthday,” I thought to myself. My heartbeats went up as she came closer and closer. She came very close alas, with a smileless face only to untie my neighbor, the buffalo. My hope of being kissed by a beautiful woman was dashed. Again, seeing my plight the tree had a good laugh. Then came the man of the house. He stared at me, took the axe and went away for his work. No one bothered about my birthday or me. Neither coffee nor breakfast was served. Slowly one by one everyone departed for their work. Now only the tree and I were left. I desired at least the tree would wish me. I raised my eyes and looked at the tree it was laughing cruelly at me. I was helpless and put my head down. The hunger of my stomach added fuel to my agony. Finally came my birthday gift in the after noon in the form of plate full of rice and dal! I just gulped it without bothering about anything. Again, the tree gave me a humiliating smile. At the end of the day with a painful heart, I lay down on the cot under the same tree waiting for sleep to overtake me. Gradually my eyes went beyond the tree to the starry sky. How beautiful and bright they were! All the stars were smiling at me and singing a birthday song for me! They told me, “Smile, don’t know God loves you.” Exactly they were expressing God’s love for me. No one remembered me on my birthday except God who made all the stars to sing for me.
My face brightened, with a joyful heart I laughed loudly, and the tree was mum now.

INCOMPREHENSIBLE BY LAWRENCE

In the vast universe that I watch and wonder,
I recognize my powerlessness and nothingness.
I try to find a place and meaning of my existence,
With closed eyes only, do I recognize all these!

Where huge stars, planets and heavenly bodies move around,
Where even minute creatures surround,
Often, I wonder at these mysterious and incomprehensible beings,
And think, what is my place in such a cosmos?

Science discloses new aspects of reality day after day,
Proving cosmos a meaningful whole,
Where man has a place in our incoherent world,
I still meditate - what is man and his place within this universe!

In the day I see all things - big and small,
At night I see all things bright, the star and the moon,
The huge heavenly bodies and the tiny creatures,
All move and exist, I still wonder - how and why!

MANAGE AND PRIORITIZE: TIME BY LAWRENCE

Someone has rightly said, "You will never find time for anything, if you want time, you must make it possible". In recent days I was stuck by a thought, that some of us seem to undertake extra activities though being busy, while others seem to have no time for any extra activities. The responses we receive says the entire story; 'I am busy', it's impossible', 'I cannot do'. However others respond quite positively i.e., 'I will do my best', let's hope I finish it well'. Yet what impresses me is that they take up the challenge and do their part to the best of their ability. I wonder how they can do it in spite of their busy schedule. Yet, it truly possible, only if one does the required:-
Prioritize the activities, assignment, duties and responsibility
Manage and allot the time according to priority
Use all the talents and potentials to the full
Go out an extra step with special interest and love
Do the difference, by making it one's own
Be responsible for the undertaken opportunity.
Thus, one of such people makes his destiny as future leader, managing his works, duties and responsibilities according to the priority and available time, with special interest and hard work for the benefit of others in need and for his own.

ENCOUNTER WITH THE LORD BY LIJO KODI
Sun made clouds curtain
Birds flew out of nest in day's dawn
There was a calling of 'the unknown'
I was asleep; I wanted to tell something to 'noman'
But I couldn't raise my tone
By the time I was dressed up with dazzling clothes
The vehicle was ready, decorated with roses
There were many to accompany me to the house
But on the way they withdrew themselves
And I was all alone before my Lord

MANASSEH- FORGET ...BY LIZOS
Come! We can have supper, and a cradle with ill feelings of memories...Before raising Lazarus from the dead Jesus asks the people to take away the stone. When we look at this act of Jesus we could put him into the third standard lunatic. An ordinary man would know that the dead-body decays very fast. That is what she reminded Jesus... “Is Jesus crazy?” It is said that the worst smell in the world is of a cadaver. But if you want to see the great miracle of Jesus in your life you have to roll down the stone. It may smell like a cadaver. Do you want a life in abundance? Take away the stone. What is the stone in our life? It can be worries of life, greediness, selfishness,....and all of us have a common stone which we cover up with a mask in-front of others, a stone of revenge. If we are able to take away this rock of retaliation from our hearts, we also can have a renewed life.
All of you might have watched the film 'Munna Bhai MBBS' where a young man comes to the heroine who is a doctor for a check-up. And there he realizes that he is suffering from cancer of last stage. His face turns very pale as if it was going to rain. He puts forward a lot of questions to the doctor. "Why has God done this to me?, I was very faithful to my life that God has given me, but then why has God given me this?" Just like a child that sits on the sea-shore and cries. He tells, “I did not destroy anybody's castles then why these waves took away my castles?"
For happiness, you should have to do three things:
1. You should be able to forgive yourselves.
2. You should be able to forgive others.
3. You should have no complaints to God and to others for the bad experiences and sufferings in life. The one who is the cause of our bad experiences and sufferings may not be aware of that she/ he has given us insomniac nights. A writer was sitting in his courtyard. Suddenly he saw a man in the garden destroying all the flowers and plants. The writer ran and caught hold of him, but suddenly when the writer removed his hand, he found that man was blind! Unknowingly he had entered into the garden. And the writer took a pen and scribbled in his dairy "Don't accuse those who destroy your garden of flowers, they may be blind." Which is the most ferocious animal in the forest? You may be thinking it may be a lion or a tiger. No, it is a wounded one, who has escaped from the trap of hunter. Because it will always be waiting to take revenge. Can you forgive? Sure. But let me ask you, can you please forget? No, never! If we analyze our memory we may find more things like offences by others and wounds by others etc. It is the psychology of our human mind. We are helpless here in this case. But if we give our life to Jesus he is ready to do miracles, a loving touch to the blindness of our heart, a caring kiss on our leprosy, a firm hold on our lameness... But remove the stone...!

Love, Love, Love… BY JOHNSON BHOOPSHING

Feel awkward to see the title? Yeah, naturally! Why are some words repeated three times? Probably just to capture your attention. Don’t you think this group of four letters L O V E is the most wonderful and most important thing in the world?
Wisdom, knowledge, faith, hope and many other great virtues and spiritual achievements are just dwarfs before this small thing called “Love”(Cf. 2 Cor 13,2). It is everywhere, in every person, every creature and in everything that exists, because “it is out of love that God created the world.” In the absence of love, life is not ‘life.’ This small little thing is so important, yet we rarely give it a deep thought. Can you name me anybody, anything or any creature that is totally strange to this thing called ‘Love?’ you know it is because of your love for wisdom or knowledge that you keep on reading things like this article.
Love can be defined in different ways, depending on the context. It has got different meanings. For instance, love between, the so-called “lovers” has a different meaning, whereas love between parents and children, has a different meaning, et cetera. Probably you know all these types of love already and may be you will be irritated at my lack of detailed knowledge about all these. But have you noticed one thing? All these kinds of love are conditioned by time, place and situation, hence not long lasting. Yet they are sufficient to give us some idea about Love.
You must have experienced love of your parents, love of your kith and kin, even love of “friends.” But you must have realized that the love of these persons in our life, is not everlasting, or at least it does not last for long. If we go to the “ultimate cause” of love, we find that ‘God is the source of all love, only His love is everlasting. God says, “I loved you with an everlasting love” (Jer 31,3b). We have a door opened to us for everlasting love, just free of cost, so, should we run behind anything else that is temporary?
Though we are not worthy, yet God has called us to be the instruments of His everlasting, unconditional love. And it is because of this love that we are called children of God. “See what love Father has given us that we should be called children of God, and that is what we are” (1 Jn 3,1). It is not that God has suddenly started to love us, but He has been loving us from the very beginning. Our very existence is because of His love for us. “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us” (Rom. 5,5).
Have we ever realized the presence of God’s precious love in our hearts? If we have realized then it is our bounden duty to express this love in our actions and our behaviour, and if still we have no serious interest in feeling and experiencing His love then “get up and come back to Him” and ask Him to give us grace to experience His love because if we don’t experience His True love then what else is there to speak about, to the people?

WHY I PERISH WHILE OTHERS FLOURISH

BY NAVEEN PINTO
Friends, what are you looking for? Success! Fame! Or Wealth! From time immemorial there has been a struggle between people of opposite poles to claim superiority over one another. But, in this tossing situation where have you been caught up? Robin Sharma, the author of ‘Discover Your Destiny’ says, “You are for greater than you have ever dreamed of being.” Yes, it’s absolutely true to those who have realized it. Can you know your capacity before you test it? Unfortunately, whenever we are asked to take up some task most of us blindly say ‘no’ or ‘it is not my cup of tea’. If so, how will you know your credentials or the capacity? So, where does the problem lie? Is it within us or outside of us? The young Arjuna says in the Mahabharata, “Enthusiasm is the mother of success.” In fact, enthusiasm is the main factor for motivation, the key to hard work, which in turn is the way leading to success.
There are many other complementing elements like hope, confidence, positive thinking etc., but, how do we incorporate them in our personality? Can any one dent our confidence? If we are really confident, it will enable us to sustain it. If not, it will be like the cracked pot useful for nothing. There is a general tendency in us to identify some icons in our journey towards success. A novice of management is quite normal to set Nandan Kilikani or other renouned CEOs as their icons to achieve targeted goal. A club cricketer dreams himself as a future Tendulkar. What about us; do we dream to become another Jesus in the new era of global village?
Friends, hope is the soup to cope with the challenging situations of life. Are you in possession of it? We often tend to look at the prosperity of the well-to-do people and, not the good of the doomed. Why ‘Tete’ can’t be a new ‘Tata’ of the time? Why a ‘Barla’ can’t be the new ‘Birla’ of the nation? Of course we lack support but not the opportunity. It is high time we stop saying ‘why I perish while others flourish? Time is at hand to take our turn and bring about change, because it will tell us when I flourish others will be nourished or will the story resumes to be the same?

Life is a celebration
Celebration of success
Success of our dreams and plans BY LARRY
Dear friends,
Today, we live in a hi-fi world of technological advancement, where our lives are so busy with our prized dreams, plans, adventures and achievements. We are so lost in celebrating our life that we hardly generate the feeling of gratitude. We mind only of our work to succeed as per our plans and dreams. Jesus also found it true in his earthly life – when only one, out of ten lepers came back to thank him for having made him clean.
This tale proves that we humans are truly - a funny race, because we always look for something for ourselves. We always long and crave for something missing in our possession, often we are too preoccupied to think of saying ‘thanks’ for anything and to everyone. We hardly think about various people around our workplace, home service providers and government workers, who day and night labor to make our lives pleasant and wonderful. We hardly think of thanking them for their contributions. If we attain success, are not they too were helpful to us? But, who cares for them.
Today let us remember all of them, who come across in our daily chores and who make our daily routines possible, unnoticed by us.Above let us thank the Almighty God whose i nnumerable blessings are with us. Our very life, health, weather, nature and everything under heaven is his blessings for us. Have we ever realized to thank God? Let us recount all those blessings and graces and wonder at the providential love of God, the father.

MOTIVATION TO BECOME A PRIEST

BY GEORGE MARY CLARET

Motivation makes an action good or bad. If somebody asks us why we want to become priests? Our answers would vary like, ‘I want to serve the poor’, ‘I want to educate the people’, ‘I want to do some social work’, ‘I want to offer mass’, ‘I want to fulfill my parents’ promise to God’ etc. It has no end. But when I ponder over this question, I think if these are our answers, we are going to fool ourselves because married people can do better works, and they are doing. But then what would be the perfect and right motivation, I want to live and live exclusively for Jesus as St Paul says in his letter to the Galatians 2:20 -“ and the life I now live is the flesh I live by faith in the son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.”
It is the result of the experience of being loved unconditionally by God that makes us surrender our whole self totally and unconditionally, as St; John says in his first epistle 4: 9-10, “ God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only son into the world so that we might live through him.” This conviction of being loved by God is very essential because it is this experience that would make our life meaningful and joyful. I think our motivation must begin from this. If we have not experienced this love of Jesus and accepted, it we may fall apart when we are faced with difficulties and struggles; the three Ws – Wealth, Wine and Woman- would simply overpower us because we find some void, emptiness within us and we would try to fill it with these things as St. Augustine did before his conviction.
This void, emptiness is created by God only to fill it by him. It is found in everyone both married and unmarried. All would experience this one or the other time of our life. That is why the wisest man ever lived, king Solomon said after having experienced all the possible pleasures of life – vineyards, gardens, male and female slaves, all kinds of animals, silver and gold, singers and many concubines. At the end he says. “For apart from him (God), who can eat or who can have enjoyment? (Ecclesiastes 2:26)
There is one common thing that motivated the saints and martyrs to live the kind of heroic life they lived; and that is their experience of being loved by God unconditionally and their desire in return to love that God exclusively. The conviction of being loved by God makes one love him back and this love for God is expressed and actualized in and through love for human beings. All these begin with the experience of being loved by God. I think only this conviction can make us true disciples and very specially and importantly “ANOTHER CHRIST” and this is the need of the hour. Let us always pray this small prayer in our hearts and see the miraculous difference it makes in our life.

JESUS I TRUST IN YOUR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR ME!.

RELATIONSHIP BY SAIN ARACKAN

Man as a social being needs to relate himself to others for his own survival, satisfaction and spiritual bliss and at the same time for the common good of the human society at large. This statement is very apt and true. The “Others”, therefore, are man’s “Relatives”. Realizing this truth one of the famous poets of India, Ravindranath Tagore, defined the human person as “the one with whom we can relate ourselves”.
Our world today is fast becoming smaller. This happens due to the rapid scientific and technologic developments and discoveries. Such developments are a boon for communication. Remaining in one part of the world we can come to know, therefore, what is happening in the other parts of the world within the fraction of a second because of communication facilities that are available to us.
Unfortunately, however, more often than not, man makes use of these modern facilities for his own selfish and egoistic motive. More and more he becomes a slave to the machines; he lives in his own world remaining isolated and cuckooned; he lives unrelated and broken. Consequently, moreover, he also slowly lacks the willingness and initiative to relate to others. But can humans live as an island, nevertheless?
By our own life examples, therefore, we could attempt for transformation. Our sense of healthy communication could better others’ life than what is providing by today’s modern technology. Our exemplary initiatives, even a smile that is so “priceless” or kind word, for example is little “Hello”, could be invaluable. By lighting such tiny candles of “connectivity” we could indeed take valid initiatives in order to remove the “darkness of the world of broken relationship”.

Pain and Happiness BY SIJO CHUGATH
Pain and happiness constitute the essential emotions of human life. They spring up from the same source and are inseparable. One is not greater than the other. They are the ups and downs of the life. As the pendulum of a clock swings to and fro, life also swings, always between a smile and a tear. Without pain, happiness cannot be meaningful and without happiness, pain cannot exist. One state can be defined as the absence of the other, but one cannot be understood without the other. Both are equally essential for our lives too.
If we really look from the eyes of wisdom, there is nothing in this creation that is free from ‘pain’. A wish creates pain; separation creates pain; beauty creates pain. Pain is the tail of everything in this world. According to Buddha, desire is the root cause of pain and suffering. Pain is thus a reality, very much basic to human life.

But, pain never remains as it is. It can be an intermission to greater happiness and goodness. The distance from a piece of reed to beautiful music is only seven holes. If that waste reed could undergo the pain to be pierced, it becomes a good musical instrument. For the formation of a precious pearl, the oyster has to undergo the suffering caused by a sand grain. Moments of pain and suffering make us more human and help us to face realities boldly. It is said, “Storms make oaks take deeper roots”.

In the case of pain and happiness in one’s life, ‘attitude’ is of great importance. Once, a poet came to the seashore, to put an end to his unsuccessful life by suicide. He sat for some time, looking at the rain clouds in the sky. As time went on, he observed the sky becoming pleasant, washing the rain clouds away. That became a moment of realization for him, “Why the same could not happen in my life too”?

We must receive pain or happiness in our lives as it is. There will be change of seasons in our lives too. All are different stages to mould us as a being in the world. Once, a professor came to the Nazi concentration camp as a prisoner. After suffering a lot, he decided to end his life with a shaving razor. Standing on the stool near to the window pane, he watched the world around for the last. It was a new world after the winter, with new sprouts on every plant and on every tree. That very sight made him to think of a better tomorrow and he changed his decision.

Happiness is the state of mind by which we are content with what we are. The attitudes and our view on looking at things make the difference. Once a traveler asked a shepherd boy, “What kind of weather are we going to have today?” “The kind of weather I like”. The shepherd boy replied. How do you know it will be the kind of weather you like?” asked the traveler. “Sir, Having found that I cannot get what I like, I have learnt always to like what I get. So I am quite sure we will have the kind of weather I like”.

When we meet situations, even hardships with a positive attitude, that can become a cause of happiness. The best way of attaining success in life, is to do everything with joy.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY THOUGHTS
Designated as the National Song of India, "Vande Mataram" had three great minds working over it. It required the genius of Bankimchandra Chattyopaddhay to pen the beautiful verses of "Vande Mataram", the flair of Rabindranath Tagore to set it to a glorious tune and the skill of Shri Aurobindo Ghosh to render it in English with the essence of the song intact. Go over the Sanskrit lyrics of "Vande Mataram", as well as its English translation. English Version
Mother, I bow to thee! Rich with thy hurrying streams, bright with orchard gleams, Cool with thy winds of delight, Dark fields waving Mother of might, Mother free. Glory of moonlight dreams, Over thy branches and lordly streams, Clad in thy blossoming trees, Mother, giver of ease Laughing low and sweet! Mother I kiss thy feet, Speaker sweet and low! Mother, to thee I bow. Who hath said thou art weak in thy lands When the sword flesh out in the seventy million hands And seventy million voices roar Thy dreadful name from shore to shore? With many strengths who art mighty and stored, To thee I call Mother and Lord! Though who savest, arise and save! To her I cry who ever her foeman drove Back from plain and Sea And shook herself free. Thou art wisdom, thou art law, Thou art heart, our soul, our breath Though art love divine, the awe In our hearts that conquers death. Thine the strength that nerves the arm, Thine the beauty, thine the charm. Every image made divine In our temples is but thine. Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen, With her hands that strike and her swords of sheen, Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned, And the Muse a hundred-toned, Pure and perfect without peer, Mother lend thine ear, Rich with thy hurrying streams, Bright with thy orchard gleems, Dark of hue O candid-fair In thy soul, with jewelled hair And thy glorious smile divine, Lovilest of all earthly lands, Showering wealth from well-stored hands! Mother, mother mine! Mother sweet, I bow to thee, Mother great and free! - Translation by Shree Aurobindo.Mother, I bow to thee! FINE ROWS AUGUST 4, 2009 (part one)

UNIQUE BY JOMAN DEVASIA

God creates everything unique.
God looks everything unique.
God unites everything unique.
God makes everything unique.

We react to others uniquely.
We destroy everything uniquely.
We separate everything uniquely.
We hate everything uniquely.

You can recreate everything unique.
You can look everyone unique
You can reunite everything unique

EVEN GOD CAN HAVE HUMOUR

EVEN GOD CAN HAVE HUMOUR

God was in the process of creating the universe
And he was explaining to his subordinate
Look everything should be in balance
For example after every ten deer there should be lion.
Look here my fellow angels, here is the country of the United States.
I have blessed then with prosperity and money
But at the same time I have given them insecurity and tension…
And here is Africa
I have given them beautiful nature
But at the same time, I have given them climatic extremes,
And here is South America
I have given them lots of forests
But at the same time I have given them less land so that
They would have to cut off the forests…
So you see fellows, everything should be in balance.
One of the angels asked…
“God, what is this extremely beautiful country here?”
God said, “Ahah! That is the crown piece of all INDIA”
My most precious creation.
It has understanding and friendly people. Sparkling streams and serene mountains.
A culture which speaks of the great tradition that hey live.
Technologically brilliant and with a heart of Gold.”
The angel was quite surprised:
“But God you said everything should be in balance”
God replied – “Look at the neighbors I have given them”

I SAW THE WORLD

I saw a crowd,
Of lovely people,
I saw a garden
Of dying petals.

I saw happiness,
On gloomy face,
I saw every man,
An actor of stages

I saw friends
With envious mind
I Saw men,
Being Unkind

I Saw People fighting
For Water and for Land
I Saw People killing
Fro wine and bread.

I Saw the world,
Both at day and night,
I Saw the world
In the fading light.
